Belt tension measuring devices
Belt tension measurement can determine whether an installed drive belt has the recommended pretension. The target values for belt tension are specified by the manufacturer of the system or the belt depending on the application area, material, and design. Proper pretension must be ensured not only during belt installation but also regularly during maintenance and inspections, as belt tension can change during operation due to various influences. Additionally, belt tension should be checked with a suitable belt tension measuring device whenever irregularities occur.

DT-BTM 2000A
- Standard sensor head
- Measurement of belt vibration frequency
- Measuring range: 10 … 900 Hz
- Accuracy: ± (1% of reading + 4 digits)
- Resolution: < 100 Hz: 0.1 Hz / > 100 Hz: 1 Hz
- Memory for 750 measurement values
- Length of gooseneck sensor: 16 cm
Belt tension measuring device with a short gooseneck for measuring belt tension. The measurement values are displayed directly on the graphic display in Hz and Newtons (N). During a measurement, up to 750 values can be stored on the belt tension measuring device.
The gooseneck of the belt tension measuring device is 16 cm long, allowing measurements to be taken at hard-to-reach points. With an accuracy of ±(1% of reading + 4 digits), the belt tension measuring device is a precise measuring instrument.

DT-BTM 2000L
- Gooseneck sensor (extra long)
- Measurement of belt vibration frequency
- Measuring range: 10 … 900 Hz
- Accuracy: ± (1% of reading + 4 digits)
- Resolution: < 100 Hz: 0.1 Hz / > 100 Hz: 1 Hz
- Memory for 750 measurement values
- Length of gooseneck sensor: 26 cm
With the external probe of the belt tension measuring device, measurements can also be carried out in hard-to-reach places. For this purpose, the belt tension sensor was designed with a 26 cm long gooseneck. Additionally, the sensor can be securely mounted on a tripod, as it has a 3/4 thread. To allow free operation of the handheld device, it is connected to the belt tension sensor via a coiled cable. If needed, the belt tension measuring device can be supplied with an ISO calibration certificate.

In many applications, a belt tension measuring device is used to determine the natural frequency of the tensioned belt. For this, the system must be shut down, and the stationary belt set into vibration by striking it. These vibrations must then be captured and analyzed at an appropriate point using the belt tension measuring device.
With the measured vibration frequency, the belt tension measuring device can often calculate further values for the belt if the necessary input data have been provided.
The kinetic energy of components rotating around their axis can be transmitted to other components using gears, chains, ropes, or belts. Rope and belt drives are frictionally connected to the pulleys rather than positively locked. They enable high rotational speeds with quiet operation and require no lubrication.
A prerequisite for low-loss energy transmission in belt drives is properly matched and aligned belts and pulleys, perfect seating of the belt on the pulleys, and correctly adjusted belt tension. Belt drives are often equipped with fixed tensioning devices.
If necessary, excessive or insufficient tension can be easily corrected. Manufacturers of machines and vehicles usually specify the permissible pretension values for each installed belt. Using a special belt tension measuring device, the pretension force on the belt can be checked at any time while the drive is stationary.
